If you're hoping to earn some extra money this summer, now is the time that you should be looking to secure yourself a summer job, because unlike many potential applicants, employers do not like to wait until the last minute. Most summer jobs are taken by the time that students are out of school, and the best jobs are taken by the people who have done all of their preparation well in advance.
Start Your Summer Job Hunt Now!
Don't wait until graduation to start working on your resume and sending out your applications. Take some time this Spring to prepare and complete your job resume by adding your job experience and qualifications and developing a professional looking cover letter that outlines your skills, expectations, and employment variables. The students who get this done ahead of everyone else are going to get the first shot at potential temporary summer employment, because businesses are looking for smart, reliable students who are organized, prepared, and are willing to take the time to get themselves ready for summer.
Resumes
Just remember that your resume should contain "relevant" information that connects you to the potential employer. Employers want to know what skills you have, what education you hold, and what experience you've gained. They are looking to fulfill needs in their businesses, and most employers are not willing to invest a lot of money and resources training people for jobs that will only last a couple of months. Instead they will look for students who have some necessary skills or abilities to fill immediate needs. So when you are building your resume, put in the stuff that counts--the stuff that will make you more attractive to employers than the other students and applicants. Leave out any irrelevant information such as hobbies and interests. If an employer wants to know what you do in your spare time, they'll ask. Otherwise they want to know what you can do for them!

Temporary Work or "Temporary Employment" refers to a situation where the employee is expected to leave the employer within a certain period of time. Temporary employees are sometimes called "contractual" or "seasonal" or "temps." They may work full-time or part-time, depending on the individual case. In some instances, they are given benefits (such as health insurance), but usually the best treatment is reserved for the permanent employees. It is important to note that *not all* temporary employees find jobs through a temporary Employment agency. For example, a person can simply apply at a local park for seasonal jobs.
A temporary work agency, or temp agency or temporary staffing firm finds and retains workers. Other companies, in need of short-term workers, contract with the temp agency to send temporary workers, or temps, on assignment to work at the other companies. Temporary employees are also used in work that has a cyclical nature that requires frequent adjustment of staffing levels. |
